It doesn't take a lot of investigating to know that TF1's show Ile de la Tentation is for one thing and one thing only: great ratings. But we wanted to investigate anyway...find out if there is actually a real-life (sane) couple out there who'd want to go on the show to test the strength of their relationship, which is supposed to be the but of the show.
The concept of L´Ile de la Tentation stems from the American show, Tempation Island, which first aired in the U.S. as a Fox reality show back in 2001. The show in the States only lasted three seasons, but French adaption is now in it's sixth season. Hmmm...what does it mean?
For the show TF1 chooses four couples who want to test their love. Once they get to the island, which is always a beautiful sunny place, the couples separate and go to opposite sides, only finding out about their mate's actions or lack there of by a nightly video session. On the women's side there are 12 gorgeous men all with seven-minute abs waiting to temp them into doing something they probably shouldn't be, and of course the same goes for the men:12 bikini clad women ready to do what they can to make the guy crack so his tear-driven girlfriend can watch it with three other strangers around the campfire later that night. Oh man, that sounds like tons of fun.
So our question was this: Who in the hell would want to go to "temptation island" and willingly have their man or woman tempted by half-naked people who are there precisely for that? We went to the streets of Paris with the question because we had to know. We're tired of seeing them cry on TV!
Prissy Mag asks: What to you think about Ile de laTentation?
I think it's stupid and fake. Karen, age 20
I would never go on a show like that. There's enough temptation for my man on the streets of Paris everyday. Sandrine, age 32
Yes I would go, but just for the free vacation. You really have to trust your guy though, make a pact with him to just be there for the freebies. Julie, age 23
TF1 is just trying to make money. This show and all reality shows are degrading. Pauline, age 29
The best thing would be to get a pretend boyfriend and go for the free vacation. Sarah, age 31
I watch the show and I think it's real. Some of the couples are really hard to watch and you feel sorry for them. Anne-Sophie, age 26
This show stinks to high heaven. I watched it once in the States and once here. It sucks. Brian, age 29
Some people just want the fame. Karine, age 30
Temptation Island is just simply inappropiate. I'd rather watch Koh-Lanta. Steve, age 45
If you have to go on a show like that to test your love, then you already have problems. Anne, age 38
I agree. If you have to test your love in that way, you should probably ask yourselves some serious questions. Barbara, age 39
It can be fun to watch, but there's no way in hell we'd do the show ourselves. Phil and Carole, ages 34, 33
Paul, age 34
There you have it. It's official: Ile de la Tentation sucks! Now we can stop watching it.
