The pope is trying to rope in the French, bring them back to the
church, but he will have a tough time of it! French people haven?t been
?practicing Catholics? for years. According to a 2007 poll, 64 percent
of the French consider themselves Catholic, but only five percent are
active. Coming from a Baptist church in the heart of Alabama, that?s a bit shocking to me. Only five percent. Out of 64. Ah, the heretics! Wait, what's that saying? Something about glass houses?
All the same, Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Paris today and was met at the airport by President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni. Apparently, President Sarkozy has reserved this honour to only two other visitors: former South African President Nelson Mandela and the freed hostage of the FARC, Ingrid Betancourt.
