 I met Norma Trosman, on New years Eve, at a small party she held in her Atelier. Norma is from Argentina, but has lived a long time in Paris, working as a professional painter. Spend even a small amount of time with Norma and you will soon discover she is a woman who lives and breathes for painting. She could be called a paintaholic, if such a word existed. I have tried on a number of occasions to photograph her work. I have come to the conclusion Norma is some kind perfectionist.
I make my way to her atelier/apartment which is off République. There is the early stages of a protest. République is often the setting for people venting their anger. I don't investigate I just assume that this is to do with immigrants without papers, I hear the name Sarkozi mentioned with distain. Though Norma loves talking, especially about things artistic, my time with her will be on a strict timer, you have to understand she has work to do, paintings that need to be attended to. She makes a cup of tea and we talk, she enthusing about her time in New York. After some time I cagily ask if I can photograph her work. I even manage to coax her into one of the photographs. Maybe my philosophy and work is different to Norma's. Her work is always immaculately presented. Even the rims of the canvases are painted and stylized .
Like many artists she is weighed down by the need to bring in money. She frets about this, because all she wants to do is paint and to paint large works. She teaches art, as a way of earning a crust, but even this she laments, as she would prefer to be in front of her easel painting, her zest for painting and professionalism is awe inspiring.

She speaks of paintings never being finished. Her studio's arranged in
such an orderly way. Finished paintings are meticulously protected with
bubble rap. If only I had even a morsel of her organization, instead of
the chaos I live in. I track Norma down, after she has been away in New
York for a seven week venture, in which she has tried to find openings
for her work.
She incorporated such things as cars and
taxis into her work. She is not inspired to talk about her work to me,
maybe she wants the paintings to speak for themselves. Some of the
paintings remind me of scenes from films, some of her characters look
like forlorn lovers or gangsters in some film noir setting, sometimes
her painting subjects are somewhat somber. She also seems to have a
fascination with cows. She has shown her work all over the world and is
taking part in a group show in New York, one of the fruits of her trip
to new York.
