R emember Star Ac 4? Okay, now think back to the talented guy who sang songs from Elvis. You probably remember him only as "Morgan," but today Morgan Auger is in the process of making his entire name known. With a style and voice as smooth as Josh Groban, Morgan is a dynamic singer bringing it to us in both French and English. Prissy Mag recently caught up with him as he prepares to take the United States and France by storm.
PM: What was it like being on Star Academy? I remember seeing you on the show and commenting on how good you are!
MA:This image was mainly for visual effect and it's really a caricature. The production department had to give me a stereotype.
PM: Did you learn a lot from Star AC?
MA: Yes and no; one learns how to evolve in a business industry, on a
television production set; it was a great experience but now only a
feeling of mediatic respect remains. We are pawns, we are there not in
order to learn but used to create the TV ratings.
PM: What was Nikos (the show?s host) like in person?
MA: He is a friendly person but I do not know him off the set.
PM: How long have you been singing?
MA: From childhood. Singing give me a sense of freedom and make me feel alive (chanter est vibratoire et existentiel)
PM: What artists have influenced you and how?
MA: Elvis Presley, symbolic icon, a provocator and a revolutionary leader of the rock'n'roll music. Yes, Brel, charismatic character with a way of interpreting its writings and its lyrics. He was a fantastic poet. It managed from there to create colorful words. The contemporary artists Josh Groban, Pixies, Neil Young, James Blunt, John Miller, John Mayer, Sting, Cold play, Stevie Wonder. The Beatles understood everything. Some songs inspired me to create.
PM: I?ve heard you singing in English and it?s really amazing. What?s it like for you to do that with French being your native language?
MA: Thank you for the compliment. I am open- minded to new vision, and I like to change from different
cultures to different places, and conversations. This helps me to be
more creative as well as being sensitive to people who surround me. Currently, I like to sing in several languages. I prefer to create in English, a flexible and musical language but I love my mother tongue for its rich cultural diversity however difficult to work with. If anyone has anything to say, he has to do it in several languages, only emotions are universal.
PM: You?ve performed a lot in te States. Where exactly?
MA: In small places like wine bars or public houses and restaurants in the San Diego Area.
PM: What was that like for you?
MA: It is different as I have to make a name as a French artist who sings in English.
PM: If you weren?t a singer, what would you want to be?
MA: An alchemist or a wizard.
PM: The word out on the street is that you?re planning to release songs there. Can you tell us about that?
