Kim Petyt, an American wedding planner based here in Paris, is one admirable woman. She's been creating events for almost 10 years, both in the U.S. and in France, and is the Owner and Managing Director of a full-service wedding and event planning agency called Parisian Events, which caters to the English-speaking community in Paris. Her specialty is combining traditional American elements with classic Parisian elegance. Kim recently made time in her busy schedule to talk to us and here's what she had to say.

Deborah Heard is a world traveler, plain and simple. That's why I wasn't surprised when she decided to pack up and move to Paris for an extended vacation of three months...living in an apartment and enjoying the city à la facon francaise. Prissy Mag asked her to reflect back on her adventure here, and this is what she told us.

Well, its over. A bit shorter than I thought, but I decided a few months ago that I would leave Paris as soon as my teaching was over. And mission accomplished. I read and I wrote. I lived in a new country and discovered a different approach to life, a different way of living with people, I published. I met writers and I drank coffee, smoked cigarettes and listened to the way the French spoke. I danced all night from Paris to Madrid. And there are things (like working!) to be done in the States while I would love to prolong my “toujours en vacances” in Paris.

I'm devoting this month to my amazing flatmates: fellow language assistants, closest friends, and sometime annoyances...

Quite frankly, there is no better time to be an American abroad than now. Of course, a part of me wished I was feeling the energy in Washington during Obama's inauguration but there is another part of me that absolutely loves the anonymity of being abroad; of hearing conversations on the metro about Obama or buying a newspaper with these faces as the new symbol of American power when no one knows I'm American or any of my more complex sentiments given his extraordinary rise.
