Stevie Wonder: Forever Awesome!
Written by Priscilla Lalisse-Jespersen
STEVIE_wonderLegendary American singer and songwriter Stevie Wonder set the stage on fire Saturday night (March 6) with a performance at the Victoire de la Musique 2010 (one of France’s biggest music events). I personally could not stop dancing and neither could the people in the audience. Wonder was in town to receive France's highest honor for artists, becoming a Commander of the National Order of Arts and Letters. Established in the 1950s, the award was created to recognize those who have contributed significantly to the arts in France and around the world.

Wonder was named for this honor back in 1981 but because of scheduling conflicts the French were never able to officially confer the title of Commander upon him. Now it’s finally done, albeit 30 years later!

"I receive this honor in memory of my mother and in memory of all of those that have made it possible for me to stand here today," said the 59-year-old performer, who began his professional career at age 11."All this in one day, it's almost too much for me. I'm breathless."
