One Saturday evening over a year ago when I walked into The Factory in Saigon, I found Janis Joplin reincarnated in the form of a forty-kilo stick of Vietnamese dynamite. Kim Anh Lindbergs is living evidence that there is not forcibly a correlation between stature and power of the pipes. What burst forth from her amps gave me le peau du poulet for an instant. Déjà vu. 1967 Saigon reborn in sound: “Baby, take another little piece of my heart now!”
Thanks to the wonderful public relations manager at Salle Pleyel, a few Prissy Mag team members were invited to watch The Cleveland Orchestra perform in a rare occasion. There were actually two performances: on October 25 the featured music was from Igor Stravinski (Agon), Richard Strauss (Metamorphosen), and Piotr Llitch Tchaikovski (Symphony 4). The October 26 performance featured music from Felix Mendelssohn (Scottish Symphony), John Adams (Doctor Atomic Symphony) and Maurice Ravel (Bolero). I still have the sounds of Ravel's Bolero in my head. Exquisite!
The Salle Pleyel will welcome one of the best orchestras in the United States, The Cleveland Orchestra, next Tuesday October 25 and Wednesday October 26, at 8 p.m.
The Grammy-nolinated American soul singer Teena Marie has died at the age of 54, her manager said. Teena Marie could really sing. REALLY sing. I remember the first time I heard her voice with Rick James, another legend. I don't get the impression she was as popular here in France as she was in the U.S. No matter, we truly appreciate your music and your talent Teena. You will always be remembered!
