Andrew Payne does not live in Paris nor is he an expat: He hails from my hometown in Alabama. He is also the son of my 2nd grade teacher whom I've always adored. And now, Andrew Payne has written one heck of a fabulous book. To all my fellow book lovers, you want to read this. I know I want him to write more. Check out our interview and you'll understand why we thought it was imperative that we dig into his head a little.

This is your first published work. What were your expectations when you first wrote it? I didn't have any particular expectations. I simply wanted to get published on my own terms. For eight years, I had been kicking around ideas, but the only time I could really write was at night. Then, I would be too exhausted to do it. With a husband, two children and my own business, I was just too busy to focus. I would write snippets here and there, but it probably took me five years to actually formulate the pieces into one coherent story. I'm a procrastinator at heart. Then one day, with a big push from family and friends, I realized that I needed to finish at least one story. To do so, I had to admit that I wasn't really interested in writing a novel at all. I just wanted to tell some good stories. Once I made peace with that revelation, the pressure was off.
