The Musée Grévin located in Paris? 9th district can be an interesting place to go?especially if it?s raining outside. Head there to check out France?s President Sarkozy and basketball great, Tony Parker in all their waxed glory. Representing the good ole U.S of A includes our current President George Bush, Harrison Ford, Ray Charles and an unfortunately-made Marilyn Monroe-quelle dommage!
Honestly speaking, wax museums are a bit weird. OK, they?re actually really weird. Celebrities who look a tad too real with human hair and frozen smiles. Where is the draw? Is it because we want to see them up close? Take pictures and try to fool colleagues? Or is it simply because it?s open on Sundays when too many other things in Paris closed? Could be that?or because it?s located just next to Hardrock Cafe and their massive American hamburgers (my real reason for going).
The tour takes about an hour and not only includes the likes of Michael Jackson, Elton John, Jenifer and Diam, but also features historical figures. Some of the coolest were those of Albert Einstein, Maria Callas, Louis XIV and Ernest Hemingway. Also worthy of seeing is the assassination set up of Henri IV and the Catherine?s Medici?s evil campaign against the Protestants (morbid, I know).
I can?t say that this museum is suitable for kids of all ages. My son age 4 ½ absolutely hated Henri Salvador?s figure?the only wax statue with sound. Henri?s laugh was the end for him. However, the museum regained a bit of its charm with the huge Spiderman and Titeuf figures, and the boutique holds plenty of temptation for kids of all ages.
And don?t forget about the hamburgers next door.
