It?s that time of year again: Cannes. The 61st Annual episode kicked off on Wednesday May 14 (runs until May 25) on the French Riviera with Blindess by Fernando Meirelles. Based on a novel by Nobel Prize-winning Portuguese writer José Saramago, the science fiction fable stars Julianne Moore as an ophthalmologist's wife who ends up as the last survivor with sight in a city racked by an onset of mass vision loss.
This year's festival will showcase 57 feature lengths films from 31 different countries. What I?m looking forward to most is Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, of course. And I might have time to look at who wore what on the red carpet.
One of my favorites is presiding over this year?s jury-- Oscar-winning actor and director Sean Penn! French people love his outspoken political ways, so it should be quite interesting. Other members include Natalie Portman, Alfonso Cuaron, Sergio Castellitto, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Alexandra Maria Lara.
