Iconic Figure Dalida

DalidaMany special televised programs, an expo at the Hotel de Ville de Paris, the release of albums, of books...20 years since the death of Dalida is stirring up a craze almost as intense as when she was alive.

Sincer her death, Dalida has become a cult figure and a gay icon to a new generation of fans. In 1988 The Encyclopedia Universalis commissioned a poll that was eventually published in a daily newspaer, Le Monde, the aim of which was to reveal personalities that had the greatest impact on French society. Dalida polled second, behind General de Gaulle.

In a free expo dedicated to Dalida at Hotel de Ville, images, documents and dresses will be displayed for the first time from May to August 2007. You can also find a series of video clips in this program consecrated to her.

La Fourmi

la fourmiThe atmosphere in this bar on the edge of La Butte Montmartre is unlike any other in Paris. This bar/restaurant is named La Fourmi, a tribute to La Fontaine's famous poem. It's a big jumble of smoke, loud music, down-at-heel characters, naive looking young tourists, snogging couples and pick-up merchants. Not to be missed. Beats the more sanitised bars closer to the Sacre Coeur hands down. But you have to be in the mood for it. Beer costs around 2/3euros.
