Call for artists - ART ATTACK - PooL Art Fair - New York
Pool Art FairPoologohighThe PooL Art Fair is different from all other art fairs in the US. Although a tradition in France since the famous Courbet's salon des independents, there are NO art fairs in the US dedicated to artists that do not have representation in galleries. Frere Independent is now accepting applicants for PooL NY 07, 4th edition of its annual independent PooL Art Fair. PooL NY will take place at the Chelsea Inn, 23rd Street and 11th Avenue, New York.

Gay Pride in Paris!
00001issue13pride.jpgThis Saturday, the 30th of June, the Gay Pride Parade will start at 1pm at Montparnasse, through Blvd St Michel, then Blvd St Germain and Blvd Henri IV, arriving at Bastille at 5pm.

At precisely 4pm, music and sound will cease for 3 minutes. Half a million participants will walk in silence to show their solidarity with people who have HIV, reminding us not to give up our efforts on HIV prevention.

In France, Gay Pride will be, once again, the biggest political protest that thrives for a society founded on equality and respect.

Officialising Your Artist Status in France
005newpics100.jpgThose working in the arts need to contact the Maison des Artistes – the official artists' representative body - to organise social security cover and other benefits, such as entrance to galleries and events. If you are an author, photographer, playwright, composer, illustrator or website designer and are paid in royalties, (droits d'auteur), you can register with AGESSA (you'll need to have earned about 7,000€ in royalties over the previous year to register).

If you are a painter, sculptor or installation artist AKA artiste plasticien you can register with La Maison des Artistes (either as a member or an affiliate). As a member, you pay a percentage of your earnings to cover your social charges (for retirement, healthcare etc) which MDA collects for the government. The association works so that as an artist you don't have to be declared self-employed but you can legally invoice for your work and MDA takes a role as an invisible employer collecting your social charges.
