Our Profile of an Artist section highlights dancers, painters, photographers, singers, musicians, writers et plus, who are not only based in Paris, but people from all over the world. We feel there should be no boundaries for art or artists, and hope you’ll agree. Without further ado, please meet PM’s featured artist for this month.

Profile of an Artist: Anna Stein, Painter & Scultptor
Written by Priscilla Lalisse

anna steinI was walking down the halls of the passage de Choiseul located in the 2nd district of Paris when I unexpectedly came across this fine artist's work. I was transfixed by images I could see through the glass windows of her gallery, and I stopped and pulled out my notebook and pen. Anna Stein saw me and came outside and asked me what I was doing. When I told her, she invited me in and shared more of her art with me. I was quite simply delighted.

anna stein Anna Stein was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936 but has lived in Paris for many years, having moved to France at the age of 20. She studied at Les Ecoles de Beaux-Arts in Paris. As another writer, Lydia Harambourg, nicely put it, "Her work is oriented toward history, poetry, myth and emotion. The paintings in this exhibition evoke a dialogue between form and color-powerful and sensuous anthropomorphic figures depicted with dazzling colors. Stein's work, influenced by Tintoretto and Da Vinci, creates a sense of discovery and revelation in a style that does not dit into any contemporary artistic movement or category."

I could see this in Stein's work. As she moved around the gallery showing me her favorite pieces I was captivated by the sense of color and movement in her work, especially the scuptures. Not only does she paint and sculpt, but she also makes jewelry and is a published author.

For years Stein's work has been exhibited all over the world including Paris of course as well as other parts of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, India, China, Switzerland and many other places. She also told me that she has many American clients as well and she's showcased her work in both Washington and New York.

Prissy Mag has been lucky enough to receive an invitation to see Stein's latest work on June 4th. We're going to try our best to attend so that we can see bear witness to this extradordinarily talented woman who's been doing her thing with beautiful light and colors for almost fifty years.
