The Pope Hits Paris

image0001pope.jpgThe pope is trying to rope in the French, bring them back to the church, but he will have a tough time of it! French people haven’t been “practicing Catholics” for years. According to a 2007 poll, 64 percent of the French consider themselves Catholic, but only five percent are active. Coming from a Baptist church in the heart of Alabama, that’s a bit shocking to me. Only five percent. Out of 64. Ah, the heretics! Wait, what's that saying? Something about glass houses?

Gone: Another Bad Motha

image0001august_11_2008.jpgGrammy and Oscar-winning musician Isaac Hayes died in Memphis, TN at age 65 yesterday. His wife, who found him unresponsive on the floor near a treadmill, immediately called police to the scene. The cause of death was not immediately known. Hayes co-wrote the hit song “Soul Man” and provided the voice of “Chef” on South Park. Hayes is also known for the theme song to Shaft.

Here are the winners of the women's sabre competition: Silver medalist Sada Jacobson (L), gold medalist Mariel Zagunis (C) and bronze medalist Becca Ward (Photo credit: Clive Brunskill/GettyImages). Hooray! France has just won its first medal (bronze) for the women's archery team. Courage la France!
