The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day is a festival taking place on June 21, when summer officially begins! It began in France and has since spread.
I didn't know until this year that the idea was conceived by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 and first took place in 1982. I thought it had been around much longer, but then again, 1982 dates pretty far back.
