Première Nuit des Arts et des Mondes

dancer Being inquisitive can prove to be either a useful trait or a burden one has to carry through one’s life. With a title such as "Première Nuit des Arts et des Mondes " a lot had to be lived up to. I had originally imagined an evening watching mind numbing television, but an unexpected e mail had drawn me away from such a fate and had led me to make a journey which involved a tram journey to a park I had never heard of, as the night sky darkened and drizzle prevailed.

(read review ).I met John recently when he kindly recommended some friends who are looking to purchase looked us up at Bonapart and I snaffled a signed copy of the book on the way out of his apartment.

Lady Chatterley

01issue_25_chatterly.jpgIt was August and Paris was in a holiday slumber. There are cultural events that take place, including the open air cinema. I went to see Lady Chatterley directed by Pascale Ferran.

 

The first thing to note is that the film is in French, which is of significance, because the story is ostensibly such a British subject taking on board the class system. For me Marina Hands was excellent as Lady Chatterley, but her lover played by Jean-Louis Coulloch who played Parkin (the director chose an earlier version of DH Lawrence's at the time contentious novel, was a spectacular mismatch.

The Techno Parade

03issue_25_techno.jpgI am sure the techno parade must be chalked in large letters on the Parisian police's yearly calendar. The one day in the year when hordes of young people can let loose, clamber on monuments and bus stops and strut about to an incongruous din, while the police look on like distant shadows, with the air of hunting dogs before the hunt.
