Today July 14th is the French national holiday, "Fête Nationale" ("National Holiday"), or as most people refer to it: 14 juillet" ("14 July"). It commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. Many metro stops will be closed as well as streets/locations, and of course there's the enormous parade on Champs Elysees until Concorde. Tonight head to one of the fireman's ball, and then look for an awesome display of fireworks at Trocadero/Eiffel Tower. This year the fireworks are dedicated to Quebec, with a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti and the fabulous Maria Callas.
